WIND 2 HYDROGEN AUERSTHAL
Austria

The pilot plant “Wind2Hydrogen” in Auersthal, Lower Austria, was in operation from January 2015 to the end of 2017. It converted electricity from wind turbines into hydrogen. A new, modular, high-pressure PEM electrolyser was specially developed for this purpose, which could produce hydrogen flexibly from renewable (surplus) electricity in different load profiles. The generated hydrogen was fed into the natural gas system without mechanical compression, where it was stored and transported. The project was carried out by a consortium of OMV, EVN, FRONIUS International GmbH, HyCentA Research GmbH and the Energy Institute at Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz.

On behalf of OMV Gas & Power GmbH, convex ZT GmbH (owner company of movingpower GmbH) was responsible for the permit design, the tender for construction works and the execution design.
